When a Tenant Dies

When a tenant dies, there are several different things which may happen.

• If this is a joint tenancy, the surviving tenant should have the tenancy transferred into their sole name
• If someone who has lived in the property for at least 12 months wishes to, they can apply to succeed to the tenancy, which would transfer the tenancy into their name
• If the property is to be handed back to ELHA, we give the executors 14 days from the date of death rent free to clear the property and return the keys.
